About Child Proofing Our Communities
The Child Proofing Our Communities Campaign (CPOC) is a project of The Center for Health, Environment and Justice. Created in 2000 to connect groups across the nation in their ongoing efforts to protect children's health, today CPOC continues to personally assist parents, schools and community groups. Our work has given assistance to hundreds of communities who are tirelessly working to end their children's exposure to toxic chemicals. We believe that raising awareness of the threats to children's health by chemical exposure and promoting a precautionary approach to new technology and consumer products will protect the future of our children and our planet.
CPOC works mostly in low income, immigrant, and racially diverse communities through specialized trainings related to incinerator and landfill sitting, safe pest control, healthy building practices, and safe school site selection. Through individually created organizing and leadership trainings, communities are able to gain the specific knowledge they need to end senselss toxic chemical exposure that is harming current and future generations as they learn, live, play and pray.
