Our Lady of the Lake School

Our Lady of the Lake in Verona focused their efforts on green cleaning for the year. Students gained leadership skills and enthusiasm for environmental issues, with their involvement in several creative endeavors. Student leaders crafted a letter to parents highlighting the school's efforts, and asking that they use green cleaners at home.  Additionally, a few student leaders created and presented power point presentations to the student body and parents about green cleaners.  Even the science fair had a large environmental component, with one student handing out sample homemade green cleaners to support her project titled ‘How to Make Green Cleaners’.

Students study green cleaning

The school switched from traditional products to entirely green cleaners, hand soaps, and mops.  To educate and involve parents and the local community, the school held a green cleaner vendor fair with representatives from institutional and household cleaners.  Describing the program, sixth grade teacher Sister Jeanne Goyette commented in the Verona-Cedar Grove Times, “The Green Flag/ GreenFaith Schools program gives our school the encouragement to educate and mobilize our students as well as the parish community in the area of Environmental Health”
