Healthy Schools Summit

Join those in Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C. that are involved in green building design, school management, nursing, education and advocacy at this year’s Healthy School Summit. Participants will learn about problems and solutions for children's health issues in the school buildings in our region from health, education and environmental experts. The Summit will also provide an opportunity for participants to connect, share experiences and opportunities, and develop relationships that will support healthy school activities in the ‘07–‘08 school year.

The Healthy School Summit is organized by the Center for Health, Environment and Justice in partnership with the Montgomery County Public Schools Green Building Program and the Metropolitan Council of Governments Department of Environmental Programs.

This conference will feature presentations and panel discussions on:

  • Children’s special vulnerabilities to contaminates in the school environment;
  • Opportunities to maximize green school construction to operate and maintain healthy schools;
  • Opportunities to become national leaders in the issue of environmentally healthy schools;
  • Montgomery County Public Schools recent efforts to improve school indoor air quality through: comprehensive IAQ programs, using certified green cleaning products, and building green-designed schools;
  • School siting laws, regulations and policies in Washington, D.C., Virginia and Maryland, case studies of schools built on contaminated property, and what we can do to about it;
  • Green Cleaning in Schools – How to Make it Happen
  • The Green Flag School Program – Involving youth and community to help green your school;
  • How parents and local communities can help schools achieve success in green school programs.
