Response to Katrina: Protection of Rescue and Recovery Workers, Volunteers, and Residents Responding to Disasters
APHA worked with CPOC and other organizations to reduce risks to rescue and recovery workers, volunteers and residents responding to the Hurricane Katrina and Rita disasters. APHA recommends the use of CPOC's Model School Siting Policy to ensure that facilities reconstructed after a disaster are built on contaminant-free sites. See the resolution here.

PTA Position on School Environmental Health
In 2004, to comply with Section 5414 of the No Child Left Behind Act, the U.S. Department of Education commissioned a literature review examining the relationship between indoor environments in schools and student academic performance and attendance.  According to the report, “overall evidence strongly suggests that poor environments in schools, due primarily to effects of indoor pollutants, adversely influence the health, performance, and attendance of students.”  (Statement taken from National PTA Website)

Read more about the National PTA's position on school environmental health on their Issues and Action, School Modernization and Environmental Health web page, where they list CHEJ as a key resource for improving environmental health in schools.
