Existing School Siting Laws, Policies and Regulations

To better inform policy discussions surrounding the siting of schools, Rhode Island Legal Services conducted a survey of all state policies that regulate the siting of schools on or near sources of environmental pollution. The results of the survey show a pressing need for the adoption of policies to prevent the siting of public schools on sites where children may be exposed to unhealthy levels of hazardous substances or pollution.
